I became interested in playing piano around the age of 5. My early musical training came from private piano lessons, accompanying in the local church, singing in many choirs and spending hours playing for my own enjoyment.
At the age of 20, I entered the Medicine Hat College music program and studied under Cameron Watson. I later transferred to the University of Saskatchewan where I studied under Bonnie Nicholson, a student of the late Robin Harrison.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Music in 1994, I taught at The Saskatoon Academy of Music as a piano instructor for 2 years and in subsequent years, I kept up a private studio in my home. Along with teaching, I became an active accompanist not only in local churches but also at local festivals and the University. More recently, I taught for 5 years at the Tri-City School of Music in downtown Port Coquitlam as well as maintaining a private studio at home.
As a teacher, I feel it is important to stay connected with the music community and continue to invest time in my own learning. Therefore, I regularly attend music workshops and seminars and help organize the local music festival with the BC Registered Music Teachers’ Association. I also continue to learn new repertoire for my own enjoyment and betterment.
